Sanders had high hopes for the feature, but an ill-handling car forced him to retire from the event just past the halfway point.

Rodney would get sweet redemption on Saturday night as he would score his second win of the 2014 season. He started his night by charging from the 6th starting spot to claim his heat race win, which locked him into the pole position on the 18 car grid for the 20 lap feature. As the main event went green Sanders grabbed the lead and despite several challenges from Fito Gallardo and Jacob Gallardo he would lead every lap to register the $1,000 win. He was followed across the finish line by Fito Gallardo, Jacob Gallardo, Royal Jones, and Christy Georges.

The weekend drew to a close on Sunday night with a final $1,000-to-win event. Rodney's night started with him charging to the win in his heat race to lock into the 3rd starting spot for the feature. In the opening laps of the feature he jumped to the lead and paced the field for the first ten laps before Jacob Gallardo slipped past for the lead. Sanders would go on to finish in the 2nd position.

January 19th, 2014 - Winter Extreme Continues for Rodney Sanders
1 The 2nd Annual Winter Extreme was back underway on Friday night at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) with a $1,000-to-win, Championship Dirt Motorsports (CDM) Open Wheel Modified event.

A strong field of 40 entries were on hand for the program, and Sanders would unfortunately see his night start in the same fashion as it did on Wednesday night as a turn one melee in his heat race collected him. The ensuing damage forced Rodney pitside, and as a result he started on the tail of a b-main. He charged from the back of the b-main to a 2nd place finish, which locked him into the 22nd starting spot for the feature. Just like he did during Wednesday's finale Sanders mounted a great charge in the feature as he advanced to a 7th place finish.

It was back to business on Saturday night with another $1,000-to-win program at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona). With 40 entries again on hand Sanders advanced to a 3rd place finish in his heat race to lock into the 12th spot. He battled the handle throughout the feature before managing to record a 7th place finish for the second straight night.

After a long and frustrating miniseries Rodney Sanders was finally able to race his way into victory lane in the finale on Sunday evening. With 35 entries on hand Sanders started his night by racing to a convincing win in his heat race to lock into the pole position for the feature. As the race went green Sanders snagged the lead and despite a late-race challenge from Cody Skitland, he went on to lead every lap to register his first win of the 2014 season!

1 Rodney Sanders opened his 2014 season in his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified on Saturday night at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) in the opening round of the 2nd Annual Winter Extreme.

A field of 38 Open Wheel Modifieds took part in the event, and heat race action found Sanders charging from his 5th starting spot to claim the win, which locked him into the 6th starting spot for the feature. In the main event Sanders advanced to a 3rd place finish behind race winner, Stormy Scott, and Jacob Gallardo.

Sunday evening found 37 competitors returning for battle, and Rodney rocketed from the pole of his heat race to score the victory, which locked him into the 5th starting spot for the 20 lap finale. Early in the race he advanced to as high the 3rd position before a mechanical failure forced him to retire from the event.

Action resumed on Wednesday night with another $1,000-to-win event that drew a field of 32 entries to the 3/8 mile oval. After drawing a big number at the pill draw Rodney started at the tail of his heat race. His night got off to a rough start when he was collected in a wreck in the first corner of his heat race. As a result he was relegated to starting on the tail of the b-main. Despite starting last in the b-main he charged through the pack to score the win to earn the 19th starting spot for the twenty lap finale. The feature found Sanders mounting a great charge in the feature as he advanced fourteen spots on his way to a 5th place finish.
