Rodney Sanders found himself competing in the opening round of another end-of-the-year special on Thursday night as he competed in the first night of the preliminary action in the Sooner Showdown at Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, Oklahoma).

Thirty-eight entries took to the lightning fast oval, and a fourth place finish in his heat race would lock Rodney into the $2,000-to-win, preliminary feature. He went on to a second place finish behind race winner, Jason Hughes. Brian Williams, Austin Siebert and Tad Davis rounded out the top five finishers.

Friday evening saw another $2,000-to-win winner's check on the line, and Rodney would have to race his way through a b-main to earn a starting spot in the evening’s main event. He would register a second place finish in the first b-main before rocketing to a second place finish in the feature behind race winner, Thomas Tillison. Tyler Wolff, Jeremy Rasmussen and Joe Duvall rounded out the top five finishers.

The $2,500-to-win finale was contested on Saturday night, and Sanders used a second place finish in his heat race to lock into the main event. He battled amongst the top five throughout the feature before ultimately recording a third place finish behind race winner, Jason Hughes and Terry Phillips. October 18th, 2014 - Rodney Sanders Competes in USRA Fall Nationals
Rodney made the trip to Southern New Mexico Speedway (Las Cruces, New Mexico) over the weekend for the $10,000-to-win, 15th Annual USRA Fall Nationals at the speed plant.

Action opened with a preliminary program on Thursday night as forty-two entries looked to lock into Saturday's finale. Sanders fell one spot short of locking into the preliminary feature via heat race action, sending him to a b-main. He charged from the fourth starting spot to win his b-main, earning him the fourteenth starting spot for the feature. Rodney suffered his share of misfortune during the 30 lap, preliminary feature which ultimately resulted in a 23rd place finish.

Friday evening's preliminary events started slow for Sanders as heat race difficulties once again relegated him to a b-main. He would advance to a second place finish in his b-main, which positioned him starting sixteenth on the grid for the feature. During the course of the feature he mounted a great charge through the field to record a fourth place finish behind race winner, Jake Gallardo, Fito Gallardo and Terry Phillips. His performance locking him into the eighth starting spot for Saturday night's finale.

Prior to the start of the race on Saturday, both of the front row starters were offered the opportunity to start at the rear of the field for a shot at $25,000-to-win. When both drivers declined, the offer was given to Sanders who accepted the challenge. He was able to claw his way past seventeen competitors from his 27th starting spot en route to what would ultimately end as a tenth place finish.

With lightning dancing in the sky, radar showing a strong storm system hovering over the area and no less than a two-hour chore to get the track race-ready again, the call was made to make the race official after 34 of 50 laps.

Rodney Sanders took his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified into battle over the weekend in the annual Open Wheel Nationals at Red River Speedway (Wichita Falls, Texas).

What was scheduled to be a two-day event was condensed to a one-day, $3,000-to-win program after Friday night's festivities were washed away by Mother Nature.

Thirty-nine USRA Open Wheel Modifieds filled the pit area on Saturday evening, and Rodney started his outing by charging from fifth to win his heat race. In the feature event, Sanders bolted to the race lead from his outside-front-row starting spot, and led wire-to-wire to claim the $3,000 payday. (Dirt Track Photography)

Sanders went into battle against a strong field of forty-five entries on Friday night but unfortunately, struggles in heat race action forced him to run a b-main. Rodney charged from twelfth in his b-main to claim the win, earning him the seventeenth starting spot in the 20 lap preliminary feature. Despite starting near the back of the pack, Sanders advanced to a sixth place finish behind race winner, Nic Bidinger, Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, Jake Gallardo and Darron Fuqua.

Via his preliminary night performance Rodney started twelfth in Saturday night's $5,000-to-win finale. When the race went green, Sanders methodically worked his way forward in the 40 lapper and eventually slipped past race-long leader Jesse Sobbing with fifteen laps remaining. Sobbing settled into the runner-up spot while Terry Phillips, Nic Bidinger and Jeremy Payne completed the top five.
