1Friday night saw the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) return to action at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin) for the 11th annual Spring Shootout.  Jumping up two spots in his heat, Rodney Sanders recorded a 4th place finish locking him into the 11th-starting position for the opening night feature. Wheeling his way into a podium spot, Rodney passed eight cars in the 44-lapper to place 3rd behind Brad Waits and Jake O’Neil with Ryan Gustin and Zack VanderBeek rounding out the Top-5.

On Saturday evening at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for the Spring Challenge, Sanders secured his spot into the $3,000-to-win A-Main with a 3rd place finish in his heat. Coming one position shy of a Top-5 finish in the 40-lap affair, Rodney passed four cars reeling in a 6th place finish.

Wrapping up the Memorial Day weekend with USMTS on Sunday, Sanders stopped at Upper Iowa Speedway (Decorah, Iowa) for the Nordic Nationals. Starting the night off with a heat race victory, Sanders locked into the 2nd-starting position for the $2,500-to-win finale. After leading the first ten circuits, Rodney swapped back in forth for the lead with Jake O’Neil until O’Neil wrested away the top spot for good on lap-16. Sanders went on to place 3rd behind O’Neil and Hunter Marriott with Ryan Gustin and Dereck Ramirez completing the Top-5 finishers. (Tyler Rinken photo)
