Rodney Sanders Rules Second Round of Wild West Shootout
On Saturday night Rodney Sanders returned to action at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) for the 14th annual Wild West Shootout. With passing points from heat races setting the grid for the opening night feature, Sanders posted a 5th place finish in his heat transferring him into the B-Main. Needing to place 4th or better to make the main event, Rodney secured his spot with a runner-up finish behind Fito Gallardo. With $1,000 on the line, Rodney Sanders logged a 17th place outing in the 25-lap affair.
The following night, Rodney passed seven cars in his heat race to place 2nd behind Chad Olsen. Starting on the pole for the A-Main, Sanders lost the top spot early but quickly tracked down leader Travis Sauer. Sliding ahead of Saurer after he jumped the cushion, Rodney soared to his fourth win of the season over Lucas Schott, Tyler Wolff, Dustin Strand, and Matt Gilbertson. Taking the checkers 1.767 seconds ahead of Schott, Sanders claimed a $2,000 payday. (Tom Macht photo)
