Sanders scores trio of top-10 finishes during Ed Gressel Memorial
Rodney Sanders was a model of consistency during this weekend’s United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Ed Gressel Memorial at Park City, Kansas’ 81 Speedway. The native of Happy, Texas, finished no worse than seventh across three nights of action with more than 50 Dirt Modifieds in the pit area each day.
On Thursday, Sanders piloted his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 to third in his qualifying group and finished as runner-up in his heat race. He started the night’s 30-lap A-Main from the 10th spot and moved forward three positions to come home seventh.
The second night of preliminary action on Friday saw Sanders set the quickest time in his qualifying group and finish third in his heat. He came home seventh in the dash race and started the A-Main from the seventh position. Sanders gained five spots during the 35-lap feature, trailing only teammate Tyler Wolff across the line.
For Saturday’s finale, Sanders was second in his qualifying group and finished fourth in his heat, putting him in a B-Feature. He took that race's checkers from the pole and started 14th for the weekend’s main event. Sanders steered from 14th to 5th in the 50-lap contest, giving him two top-five finishes in as many nights and three consecutive top-10 results.
