Sanders takes checkered flag at Mississippi Thunder Speedway
Rodney Sanders collected the $3,999 victory on Friday night at Mississippi Thunder Speedway aboard his Wichita Tank Racing / Paulson Rock Products / Stussy Construction No. 20 Texas Locomotive Solutions / Kenny’s Tile / ARMI Contractors / MB Customs Race Car / Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.
Rodney’s triumph in the Karl Fenske Memorial marked his third overall victory of the 2023 campaign.
“Everything lined up perfectly for us on Friday night at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, and we came away with the win. We were fast on Saturday at Deer Creek (Speedway), but a flat tire knocked us out early. I’m looking forward to the upcoming USMTS weekend. Anytime you can race four nights in a row for big money, it’s a good thing,” Sanders said.
On Friday, Rodney Sanders kicked off his weekend with a visit to Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin) and a trip to the track's Victory Lane.
Seeking a $3,999 first-place payday, Sanders and his ARMI No. 20 Dirt Modified team were among 27 United States Racing Association (USRA) Modified entries at the 1/3-mile, high-banked clay oval for the fourth annual Karl Fenske Memorial.
The Modified ace from Happy, Texas, notched a third-place finish in his heat race and started from the pole for the night’s 39-lap A-Main.
Sanders led wire-to-wire to take the win and register his third A-Main triumph of the year.
Brandon Davis, Alex Williamson, Parker Hale and Lucas Schott followed Sanders under the checkered flag.
Sanders then visited Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for the track’s weekly show on Saturday, where he was one of 33 drivers entered in the USRA Modified division.
Sanders scored a heat-race win and started eighth for the 25-lap A-Main on the 3/8-mile clay oval. He was unable to complete all the laps and came home with a 24th-place result after contact with another car flattened his left-rear tire, snapping a string of 13 consecutive top-10 finishes.

Sanders will be back at Deer Creek Speedway this Thursday – Saturday for the 20th annual Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) LRS Waste Services Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge.
The three-race swing opens with a $3,000-to-win event on Thursday, followed by a $5,000-to-win program on Friday. Action draws to a close on Saturday night with a $10,000-to-win slate.
On Sunday evening the action shifts to Fayette County Speedway (West Union, Iowa) for a $10,000-to-win Summit USMTS affair.
Rodney currently sits second in the latest Summit USMTS National Championship battle, just 17 markers behind leader, Jake O’Neil.
