Rodney Sanders lands runner-up finish in Mod Wars finale at Ogilvie
Continuing his pursuit for his fifth United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) championship, Rodney Sanders invaded Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minn.) on Thursday afternoon for the third annual Mod Wars.
In a field of 45 cars, Sanders raced his way into the opener with a fifth-to-third run in his heat. With a rainstorm postponing his feature to Friday afternoon, Rodney rallied to a 17th-place finish after dropping to the tail on lap 12 while running third.
Later that night, Rodney’s fifth-place finish in his heat race pinned him on the seventh row for Friday night’s $5,000-to-win prelim. Nearly cracking the top-five, Sanders advanced forward eight spots to register a sixth-place finish.
On Saturday night, Sanders secured his spot into the $11,000-to-win Mod Wars finale with a third-place finish in his heat. Gaining ground late in the 50-lap feature to secure second, Rodney rolled to a runner-up finish, which came behind Jake Timm with Tyler Wolff, Shane Sabraski, and Ryan Gierke rounding out the top-five.
Rodney holds a 101-point lead atop the USMTS point standings.
