Sanders notches win at Mississippi Thunder, 4th at Deer Creek

Rodney Sanders claimed Friday night’s USRA Modified victory at Mississippi Thunder Speedway with his Wichita Tank Racing / Paulson Rock Products / Stussy Construction No. 20 Texas Locomotive Solutions / Kenny’s Tile / ARMI Contractors / MB Customs Race Car / Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.

The win was his 13th of the season, and he added a fourth-place finish to the weekend’s results on Saturday evening at Deer Creek Speedway.

“It was a fun weekend close to our shop. We came away with a win and a fourth-place finish, so not a bad weekend at all for our team,” Sanders said. “We’re looking forward to getting back down south this weekend with four American Racer Modified Series events in four days. Should be a good time.”

Fourteen United States Racing Association (USRA) Modified drivers were entered at the 1/3-mile Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisc.) on Friday evening, where Sanders began the evening by finishing third in one of two heat races aboard his No. 20 machine.

He then started the 25-lap main event from the pole and led all but one circuit, taking the checkered flag 0.417 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Brandon Davis. Jacob Bleess, Keith Foss and Shaun Walski completed the Top 5.

On Saturday, Sanders traveled to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) to compete in that track’s 26-car USRA Modified division.

Sanders drove from seventh to third in his heat on the 3/8-mile oval and again started seventh in the 25-lap A-Main. He picked up three positions to register a fourth-place finish, chasing Jim Chisholm, Brandon Davis and Parker Hale across the line. Josh Angst finished fifth.

Rodney heads to his home state this weekend with the USRA American Racer Modified Series (ARMS) with a four-race swing. Action opens on Thursday at Hunt County Speedway (Greenville, Texas) with a $2,000-to-win program before visiting Texarkana 67 Speedway on Friday for a $2,500-to-win affair. On Saturday the $9,000-to-win, ninth annual Bryan Mize Memorial is slated for Rocket Raceway Park (Petty, Texas), and the weekend draws to a close on Sunday night at RPM Speedway (Crandall, Texas) with the $4,800-to-win Ronnie Sigman Memorial.
