Sanders scores Hunt County Raceway triumph during four-day ARMS run

Texas native Rodney Sanders competed in multiple races in the Lonestar State over the Labor Day weekend during four days with the USRA American Racer Modified Series (ARMS). He turned in a win and a pair of runner-up finishes across the four events.

The festivities began on Thursday at Hunt County Raceway (Greenville, Texas) with 31 USRA Modifieds at the quarter-mile track. Sanders, who originally hails from Happy, Texas, finished third in his heat race and started ninth in the 30-lap A-Main. After a three-wide battle, he took the lead on Lap 27 and scored the $2,000 win by 1.044 seconds over Joe Duvall. Mitchell Clement, Manuel Williams II and Chris Dawson completed the top five.

The victory was the third ARMS triumph for Sanders in 2023 and his 14th overall this season.

On Friday, the schedule shifted to 67 Speedway (Texarkana, Arkansas) for a $2,500-to-win program that attracted 36 USRA Modified competitors. Sanders won his heat race on the quarter-mile oval and started fourth in the 20-lap main event. He worked his way into the second position as the laps wound down and finished in the runner-up spot, taking the checkered flag just 0.473 seconds behind winner Manuel Williams II. Gary Christian rounded out the podium, with Tyler Townsend fourth and Tommy Cannon coming home fifth.

Saturday then saw a whopping 63 USRA Modifieds fill the pit area of the 3/8-mile Rocket Raceway Park (Petty, Texas) for a chance at the $10,000 first-place payout in the ninth annual Bryan Mize Memorial. Sanders was strong again, winning his heat race and driving from 11th to a second-place result in the 40-lap A-Main. He finished 3.536 seconds behind winner Jason Hughes, while Tanner Mullens took third. Tyler Wolff and Dennie Gieber finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The four-day slate wrapped up Sunday at RPM Speedway (Crandall, Texas) with the Ronnie Sigman Memorial. Forty-one USRA Modified drivers were in pursuit of the $4,800 winner’s share. Sanders finished third in his heat on the quarter-mile track and started the 48-lap feature from the 11th position. He faded during the race and came home 21st.
