Top-5 finish for Sanders in USRA Nationals finale
Rodney Sanders and his No. 20 Modified team traveled to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) during the first week in October for the 10th annual Summit USRA Nationals at the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks.”
Sanders was one of 44 Modified entrants at the 3/8-mile facility when the prelim races kicked off on Wednesday. He won his heat race from the pole and charged from ninth to second in one of two 20-lap A-Mains. Sanders finished 0.571 seconds behind winner Tyler Davis, while Trevor Hughes, Nic Bidinger and Ryan Middaugh completed the top five.
Sanders’ second-place result also locked him into Saturday’s $4,000-to-win finale.
On Saturday, Sanders rolled off from the seventh position in the 32-car, 50-lap main event. He climbed forward two positions, crossing under the checkered flag after Jake Timm, Brandon Davis, Gabe Hodges and Tyler Davis.
