Rodney Sanders posts pair of top-5 results in Wisconsin and Iowa
With his slated Summit USMTS plans in Texas rained out, Rodney Sanders instead competed at a pair of Upper Midwest tracks on Friday through Sunday. He turned in a successful trio of races, which included two fourth-place finishes.
On Friday, Sanders took on the 50-car USRA Modified portion of the Dairyland Showdown at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin. Sanders drove his Sanitation Resources Inc. No. 20 Modified to a third-place result in his heat race on the 1/3-mile track, putting him 11th on the grid to start the 40-lap A-Main. Sanders charged forward seven positions in the $3,000-to-win race to finish fourth behind Jim Chisholm, Brandon Davis and Lucas Schott. Curt Spalding rounded out the top five.
The next night, 43 USRA Modified competitors were at Mississippi Thunder for another $3,000-to-win program. After taking the fifth spot in his heat, Sanders won his B-Main and rolled off 18th in the feature. He again moved forward throughout the 40-lapper and recorded a 12th-place result.
On Sunday, Sanders moved on to Iowa and Mason City Motor Speedway to compete for a $1,500 first-place prize at the 1/3-mile oval. With 18 USRA Modifieds in the pit area, Sanders won one of three heats and started eighth in the 25-lap main event. He came home with a fourth-place finish, chasing Kelly Shryock, Joe Chisholm and Dylan Thornton under the checkered flag. Cole Anderson finished behind Sanders in fifth.
